How to Clean Tile Grout
Wondering How to Clean Tile Grout?
Forget the nasty chemical products with their acids, industrial strength detergent and bleach. If you want to know how to clean tile grout the green eco-friendly way, you are reading the right article. We all notice dirty tile grout in the shower, but if you have ever used tiles as flooring or as wall paneling, you are probably less familiar with how dirty the grout in between them actually is right now. All stains are not created equal, and grout is notoriously difficult to properly clean. At House Cleaning Perth I am constantly seeing yellow tile grout, when it should be white or nasty grey stuff building up on the grouting. No-one likes cleaning grout, so I have got some basic tips that can help point you in the right direction if you’ve been wondering how to clean tile grout properly. As always, our cleaning solutions are environmentally friendly (I avoid the toxic quick fix products in my cleaning business:
- Vinegar/Baking Soda – Simple solutions of these products diluted with water can remove some stains. Scrub the area with a toothbrush.
- Generic Cleaners – If baking soda doesn’t do the trick, upgrade to an organic powder-based cleaner of some sort, and be sure to rinse the grout well after applying the cleaning product.
- Commercial Grade Cleaner – If you still are having issues with the stain, look into acquiring a commercial grade cleaning product. Make sure the one you select is pH balanced, so it won’t damage the grout, and select an eco-friendly solution when possible.
- Bleaches – For the toughest stains, you’ll have to go all the way to a bleach product of some sort, so you want to avoid this unless it is truly a last resort. Oxy-bleach powders, chlorine products, and hydrogen peroxide all can be used on the worst stains.
My really big secret to Cleaning Tile Grout the cheap, fast and easy way, is…
Whitening Toothpaste and a hard Toothbrush specially designated for this job. It does an amazing job! I recently applied this when on a Vacate Clean in Perth and feedback came back that the Landlord thought the tile grout looked newer than before the tenants moved in. Whitening Toothpast doesnt smell nasty, it cleans brilliantly, and when you work into the grouting with an old toothbrush is extremely effective!
So if you’ve been wondering how to clean tile grout, follow that simple progression, depending on how tough and resistant the stain proves to cleaning.
